Anonymous said...: There is this thing called age.. roy is almost 40 years old and he is shot.. calzaghe is a guy that hide in europe almost all his career and his now preying on old american champions in an attempt to become part of the greats.. he will never be, not in my book. he fought nobody's all his career and then switched to finished up to old man.. this guy just ducks anyone that can possibly have a chance agaisnt him. this is why i love mma and hate boxing.. the problem with boxing is that the fighters are the ones picking their fights, there isnt an unification.. there are thousands of divisions and thousands of "champions".. i saw the card and in that card there was this dude with 30 fights, 0 defeats getting owned by a club fighter, a nobody.. of course the refs gave him the win but damn.. the quality of boxing is as low as it ever been right now.. fake ass shit cuz just be called a circus of immaturity.; November 9, 2008 6:06 PM
Anonymous said...: i know how some of you feel roy jones to me was like a athlete i used to look up to when i was a bit younger kind of like a superhero in a sense, for me anyway to see him get taunted and beat up really brought me down to tell you the truth, and i do think it true that calzaghe is beating on the old greats to build his rep. it was really a sad night for me.......:(

Joe wasn't hiding in Europe, both Jones Jnr and Hopkins had agreed to fight him years ago but they had second thoughts and pulled out. Too high of a risk to fight a person who wasn't well know in the states. USA is not the only country that counts you know. Most of the worlds top boxers are from outside the states. American boxers failed miserably in the last Olympics aswell. Joe was the champ, why should he have to travel there? He has humilated America's supposed unstoppable next great hope in Jeff Lacy, beat a fellow champ and excellent boxer in Kessler, comfortably beat Hopkins(who went on to humilate Pavlik after) and Jones. If you are to read up n it then you will see that a lot of the big names wanted none of him for years as he was seen as too dangerous. He dominated his division and beat all comers and even held all the belts. Only now when it is a massive pay day do the Americans want a piece of him.

That is purely rubbish. Completely ridiculous and has no basis in reality. Just so you now, Joe was born in March 1972, not 35 actually 36.

Everyone was saying he had to fight Pavlik and that would be the true test. Look what happened to him. Now Dawson, if he beats him then what? Always going to be the next guy and people will never be satisfied. This happened before when people gave him no chance against Sheika, said he would be crushed by Lacy. He wasn't even favourtie going in to the Kessler match yet he beat them all comfortably.

Once again hilarious that people say he is fighting washed up old champs when Hopkins just beat Pavlik pretty convincingly. Age is just a number, look up Randy if you have any queries on that subject.; November 11, 2008 12:35 AM
