hope you can post the jones/calzaghee bout when you get a chance
Hey can you post the calzaghi vs jones fight? Im far from a boxing fan, but this one looks good. Thanks
They misspelled his name! He doesn't use an "h"! It's not hard to confirm that info!
What was the verdict on the myth, anyway?
lets see the rest!
what about the rest of the myth!!!!
talk about a cliff hanger!!!
There is absolutely no way those numbers are right, a strong and powerful heavyweight boxer would be lucky to get 1000-1200 lbs of force psi. And that's an unrestricted punch while standing and using the entire body in the strike. All due respect to Jon Fitch, but there is no way anyone can throw a three inch punch lying on their back and get what equates to the force of a sledgehammer to the head. 1500 lbs is well in the range of giving someone a concussion and that punch looked just hard enough to MAYBE give someone a fat lip.
So, what was the result of the Myth??!
busted
No wonder they were breaking their hands before! Fighters spend years calcifying their bones to make them strong enough to punch with.
Here is a video of Bas Rutten kicking a dummy and getting 2000 PSI from a really mean telegraphed kick:

In the same episode, which was taken down from youtube, Randy got only 500-600 PSI from his hardest punch, and Bas got about 900-1000 I think.
And some heavyweight boxer got over 1000 in a previous episode.
Fight Science is a pretty dumb show though. The force that they are able to execute in controlled conditions like this is not what they would be able to do in a live fight. Nor is it the most important factor in winning a fight (as Randy's weakest punch on the whole show proves).
So Jon Fitch hitting with 1500 PSI is highly doubtful. Did Cory read the manual on how to calibrate that sensor?
Plus, if you want to be accurate about this whole thing, you have to get a kung-fu practitioner to do the test with bare hands. They are the ones who are really famous for their one inch punches, which is certainly what Kill Bill is referencing.
