Now im not saying that Machida is solely responsible for this whole "Elusive" trend I'm seeing in fighters nowadays -- especially tonight...im looking at you Vera and Bisping -- but ever since he arrived, i've started to see a lot more of it. Granted that UFC 89 was free on Spike, I would've been very disappointed had I spent $40+ to see guys in the co-main and main event use this technique. While fighting defensively gets you the win I fail to see its other positive qualities. Ill go as far as to call any guy who uses this technique heavily a "BITCH" that doesn't deserve to fight a great fighter. A great fighter, im my opinion, is one that if he would face a duplicate of himself would make for one crazy fight. Imagine, Penn Vs Penn, Silva Vs Silva. Would Bisping vs Bisping be a good fight? How about Machida Vs Machida? _Jimbo_

The video's not working.. probably deleted. I really want to see it. Damnit ufc stop deleting all the videos take a page from south park and make them viewable on your site.

What in the friggin did I miss? Leben pressed the action, Leben landed quite a lot moving forward, Leben had the only takedown, Leben kept cutting off the ring, Leben kept landing kicks both to the legs and to the ribs, Leben landed quite a few overhand lefts.

I mean, wtf? I'm no newb - I realize some people are counterpunchers and can fight backing up... I also realize Bisping landed some shots when Leben was coming in but it all seemed to me to be Leben pressing the action, cutting off the ring, landing kicks and punches and Bisping with a flurry only every now and then.

This was truly disappointing to me and I've been watching this stuff since Day 1...

That being said, thanks for posting the video and all the great work that you do (and to all who provide excellent comments whether we agree or not).

Leben won that shit & should be more up in arms about the decision. Bisping fights to avoiding losing, not to win. Bullshit decision.

Great win for Bisping. Hopefully that will silence the haters. Leben fought a good fight but Bisping out-strategised him. Overall a good night of fights - was particularly impressed with the Cane- Soudjouko result.

Great job by Bisping. This is exactly what he needed to do. Worked from the outside, avoided Lebens KO power shots and fired back with excellent shots of his own. Leben did good at the beginning of round 1 with the leg kicks and such, he was much more technical then but went back to a more brawling style after Bisping got into the right rythmn and tempo he needed to bag the win. As always Leben's chin pretty much ensured this was gonna go to a decision as we all thought, good job for Bisping not trying to finish him and rush in, since we've seen that's when Leben can come back from the dead.

All respect due to both of them. But this was an extremely boring fight, I have no idea what Leben is talking about this being his favorite fight. It consisted of 15 minutes of Bisping circling away and throwing jabs and the occasional straight right while Leben chased him and threw hail mary left hands. Bisping said it himself at the end, his plan was to take it to a unanimous decision. He fought to survive and win, not to beat his opponent. A forgettable performance from both of them.

Bisping fucking won that fight, how in the hell could you say otherwise? Leben may have connected with those looping haymakers a COUPLE of times, but Bisping was CONSTANTLY connecting with jabs and straight right hands. I like Leben, too, but good god. Anyone who would give that fight to Leben is a Bisping hater, that's all there is to it. And not for nothin', Machida runs around and picks apart guys also, and yet everyone cries that he isn't getting a title shot. Bisping does it in ONE fucking fight, and everyone bitches and moans. Some of you really need to take the sticks out of your asses.

Inded, it's now the machida fighting generation, run away from danger and strike when/if oportunitys arise.

You guys are just haters. Bisbing won this fight, he landed more shots and showed that he was the better fighter last night. leben has a good chin thats for sure but his face was ripped up after that beating

FUCK MACHIDA! HIS STYLE IS BORING/UNENTERTAINING,,,, HE'S FOUGHT LIKE WHAT 1 TIME AGAINST TITO IN THE UFC...

wow ufc 89 sucked like i expected, thank god ufc 90 will be on next week.

Anonymous said...

this was probably the worst fight card i ever saw.. the worst ever.. way to go ufc, lol

bisping is the most boring fighter in the world, out surpassing machida by miles. This fight was to close to be a unanimous decision.. a draw or split at most

every punch that bisping landed leben landed one also, i like how people assume that if someone is bleeding that means they took a beating.. dumbass'
it only takes one punch to make you bleed. Looka t Forrest, every fight he bleeds like a freak but still gets the decision..... so suck on that Bisping faggots

After Hamill was robbed, I haven't been a big fan of Bisping. But he won this fight. Just look at the cripplers face for crying out loud. The guy was a mess. Too bad, I would have liked to see Bisping get knocked out in the final seconds of the 3rd. Maybe he'll have his kid stay home and do his homework rather than watching violence.

they should take away points for runaways

Anonymous said...

anybody who thinks retreating and throwing the occasional punch for 3 rounds is good for the sport and should be applauded is a moron...

Anonymous said...

Bisping and Machida should try being multi-sport athletes in track too, as fast as they run...

Anonymous said...

The bloodthirsty masses should all just chill out for a minute - its called tactics. If you are faster, but have less power than an opponent, you have to be an idiot to stand and trade.

I really don't like Bisping, especially after he was gifted the Hamill match and mouthed off. However, he won 2 out of 3 rounds. You don't get points for taking more punches to the head, just because you have a great chin.

As for the Machida comments - he is undefeated, and has KO'd Rich Franklin, beaten BJ Penn, Stephon Bonnar, Tito Ortiz and Sokodjou. This all from a young fighter.

Standing in one place and taking punches does not make you a great fighter.

Bisping's a boring fighter? Sixteen of his nineteen fights were him winning by TKO/stoppage in the first/second round! This was the one fight in recent memory where I remember Bisping not going for the kill (and ffs, EVERYONE knows Leben has a chin, why would he risk eating leather to try and knock him out), and everyone calls him boring. Talk about some fucking haters. You guys who rag on Bisping are no better than the retards who boo at UFC events.

There's some pretty sorry fans here. Leben never landed anything clearly (well maybe a couple, but Bisping would've been asleep if Leben really landed very many of those) where Bisping was constantly landing jabs and straight rights. The thing is, Bisping had no choice but to fight the way he fought. You're going up against a guy that is stalking and moving forward, has one of the best chins, and has tons of power. To step into that would be suicide. His only chance was to fight from the outside, eventually wear down and hurt Leben, then move in for the kill. But Leben was just too tough to get worn down.
FWIW, I'd have loved to see a vintage Leben KO. I have nothing but respect for people that sober up and change their attitude.

Oh wait this was a fight.. I thought I was watching Dancing with the Stars, Prick edition...

Yes Bisping was dancing not to loose, BUT he did nothing to WIN.
Running away for 3 rounds might win Dancing with the Pricks but its sure not a real fight.

If I wanted to watch backwards bicycling I would watch the tour de Australia.

Think about Machida vs. Bisping fight, No one would land a punch because they are both Dancing Bitches. The weigh-ins would be the closest they ever get to each other. It would be a staring contest because neither could move forward towards the other dancer..

This will not be fixed until the UFC changes the scoring to include aggressiveness and or attempts to finish the fight as scoring qualifications. The current scoring system is WAY unbalanced toward dancers and its BORING !!!!!

I'm not arguing that Bisping should have stood up and fought Leben toe to toe, but Bisping could have taken the fight to the ground. Its called MIXED MARTIAL ARTS - and its been repeated more than twice by now - you have to be superb in more than one martial art. Everyone KNOWS Leben is going stand if you fight him. Take em down! Isn't Bisping a "Vale Tudo" fighter. Plus, he's got 4 wins via submission. Finally, you cant argue this, Bisping said it himself, he wanted to go out there and play the running game for 3 rounds and win via decision -- that my friend is not a champ. _Jimbo_

anyone who thinks leben was robbed is talking out their hole. Typical mma idiots who think fighters should just brawl until someone gets knocked out. Bisping picked him to pieces with great counter punching. You don't win fights by simply advancing like a zombie throughing wild punchs.

Anonymous said...

if bisping was dancing away, why is Leben's face so smashed up?

Oh Bisping must have hit him a few times

Sam Freedom said...

This is ridiculous. I'm not a Bisping hater, I just saw Leben effectively pressing the action. Perhaps he deserved a loss knowing that you have to SOUNDLY BEAT your opponent in his own backyard but Bisping only ran away and landed some punches in the process. Leben did all the handy work... so what if his face looked bad... 1 shot can do that.

Leben was outclassed by a superior FIGHTER. Leben is one dimensional and stuck to a losing game plan. He handed Bisping that fight. It was almost as if Leben was upset that Bisping wouldn't stand still and let him punch him. What suprises me is the negative response against Bisping. Leben was predictable, lacked grace, slow moving and wholly dependant on a left hook that connected but didn't have the sting

Anonymous said...

It's hilarious that people are saying "bisping" hater, that term alone shows that there are strong reasons to dislike him as a figthter. He is far from perfect, in fact if he had lost which he definitely did, to Matt Hammill IN ENGLAND OF COURSE, and this fight too, he simply has never beat a good fighter, not even close, he also had the weakest competition in TUF, and he would lose to rashad 10 of 10 fights, he has no place in title conversations, jsut has a cult following because he's from england and not many good fighters are from there... bisping is way overated because he won the show, and leben actually didnt' just throw haymakers, he controlled the entire fight (OCTAGON CONTROL, HEARD OF IT) very few people who know anything the ufc scoring system have any reason at all that bisping WON this fight.

How on earth is Bisping "superior" he has faced less impressive competition, sure Leben throws haymakers but his footwork, cardio and combos were much better this fight. By UFC scoring, he won this fight, check the scoring system and break it down, and I'd be happy to say otherwise, but "grace" no bisping almost got knocked out mutiple times, bisping is completely unimpressive and overated because of his star power, leben would knock him out if they fought again.

If anyone uses lebens "face" as a example of why he lost, then he definitely won. He landed way more damaging punches, Bisping jabbed him a lot, but leben ROCKED bisping, side of the head, way more damage and almost knocked out bisping twice. Leben clearly won this fight if you break it down by the UFC scoring system. Of course, if you win the TUF show we all know dana white has a different scoring system for you (just see forrest and rampage) good for ratings and commercials for the show if the winners do well.. any decision goes to the TUF winner... bisping is garbage
