Olympic Judo Action and A Program Reminder

I wanted to remind to everyone that British MMA fighter Lee Murray will be featured tonight on ESPN E:60 at 7pm eastern time. Murray of course is suspected in the biggest heist in British history. Known in the MMA world for notable wins against Jorge Rivera and Jose "Pele" Landi-Jons, but more notably for his loss to UFC Middleweight king Anderson Silva in Cage Rage. If you miss it, I'm pretty sure Espn.com post the E:60 segments, so I'll be on top of when its available and post it here shortly after.

Below is some Olympic Judo action, which is only being shown on the Korean olympic channel.

hey
i never ever leave comments on the internet but i just really have to thank you for being such a great blog host and keeping me up to date for the past year or so, i check this site along with many other mma sites several times daily its quite an obsession but anyways thanks again for everything and this to me is by far the best mma video blog out there. oh and this is quite relevant to ur story today ,i live in morocco and saw lee murray a week before he got caught in mega mall at a small pub called mombay i heard abt his problems with the police but since i saw him hanging out there i just assumed charges were dropped but then he got caught after knocking out atleast 5 interpol cops infront of a jewelery store in a mall only 5 minutes away. i still have the picture with him if u want to see it but anyways thanks for repping the best sport in the world properly
peace

No groundwork in Olympic Judo? Choi had a nice drop seionage, but every time he missed it he'd just turtle up and wait for a restart. Wish they gave more time for groundfighting.

wait, how did the guy in blue win in the third vid? what are the rules in judo?

Same way that the other two won..I believe it is called something like Ippon. You can win the match in one move if you perform an ippon which is basically putting your opponent flat on his back.

Ummm, you should hit up a judo academy and try and throw some guys with gi's on, then get back to us.

gi is simply part of the sport...it takes just as much skill to fight in gi as out because you need to learn all the dfense against gi moves as well as offensive moves that utilize the gi.

Pardon my Judo ignorance...but is there such a thing as Gi-less Judo? I think it would be much more impressive.

I doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this sport is predicated on loose fitting clothing, made of extremely strong material. (which inspires an impromptu joke...How do you beat a Judo player?...Take your shirt off!)

And giving up your back because you couldn't flip someone happened way more often than the actual flipping did...not smart in a practical situation.

Anyway...thanks for sharing.

as a huge MMA fan and a Judo black belt I have to apologize for Olympic Judo. Its just pure crap. (thanks for posting it though) they dont give time for submissions and there are about a 1000 different retarded rules. Real Judo is not like this. it depends on the school you go to but real Judo has both stand up and ground work. all you see in Olympic Judo these days is take downs. its sad. I live in Tokyo and the Judo coverage is Awesome here but yet you still only see a few chokes and arm bars here and there. The rules of Olympic competition Judo are BS*. In the dojo its a whole other story. There are tons of takedowns, submission and chokes you could use to defeat an opponent in real life. Just as Karo Parysian.

Gi-less Judo = Wrestling... and they turtle up there as well because they dont want to be pinned.

Yes there are subs in Judo, armlocks and chokes are allowed.

Shinya Aoki would wreck these fucks.

Basically for judo...if u chucked..and u fall on your back..its an ippon(full point)..

if u fall on your side it s half point... and i forgot about the /13 point...fall on your front side??

its been ages since I competed..

For the ground work the judge will reset if none of the player "work" on the ground...

Overall, it is sad Judo has been halved for the sake of spectators in sport. If Ne-waza was permitted with extended time to achieve a hold, then choke and armlock, there would be more skill then to flop the opponent on there back in a quasi koka, instead of a real ippon.

No offense fellow Judoka, but this just ain't Kodokan Judo.
