This fight shows why i don't like round by round judging in MMA. Two razor thin decision rounds for Shields, then a 3rd round whooping by Okami. Both the first two could be debated, since even though Shields did more damage, Okami showed the ability to neutralize anything Shields could do.

Okami was clearly the better fighter and did many times more damage overall, but lost the decision on points.

Wow, how did Shields get that decision?

that's bullshit!!!!

not to sound like some jap lover but I think the round eye lost

What kind of bullshit judging was that? UNANIMOUS DECISION?!! WTF! What did Jake do that made him the dominate fighter. Yushin clearly won that fight.

I think MMA fights should be 5 3 minute rounds. That way there's more rounds to end the fight, and more rounds to show dominence, making it easier to judge. Then Title fights would have to be like 8 or 10 3 minure rounds. I think 5 minutes is a waste of time. They get tired working for so long, they just dance around. 3 minute rounds, you get in, and do what you have to do. Anyone else agree?

crap... can't believe

agreed. it's a known fact that the human body can go 100%-80% for 3 minutes, then just drops off steeply.

I think it's an interesting proposal royalbeatz07.
How long do you think championship fights should take?
7 ,or someting like that , is an uglynumber. Do you think it's realistic?
Three minutesnis perhaps kinda short..

Thats is just a horrible judging job there.Seriousely how could they give the fight to sheilds with his half ass takedowns that were almos all shot down.An to be a unanimous decision.Thats why mma needs better judges. Its not the round by round point system. i mean 1st and 2nd round so close they each get a round whats so hard to decide about that.third round okami dominates should be a 10 8 round easy decision bad judging

Yea man Okami won that fight.

Even the crowd was booing.

actually 3 of his 4 lost were extremely close.
(actually this one wasn't close at all; he just got robbed.)

Okami is still only 27 years old.

if he keep workin hard and training to improve his striking; he will be champion sooner then later.

Wrong Decision!

PS About the suggested change in format...

...are you a TV exec or Promoter and your primary concern is ticket sales?
("it's a known fact the human body can go 80-100% for about 3 min"....yeah, and it's a known fact that almost NO fighters do that...with very rare exceptions. Case and point Caleb Starnes...you coulda made that 30 - 1 minute rounds and it wouldn't have mattered)

...or are you someone who wants to know which is the better man?

I fall into the latter category and miss the good ole days when 2 dudes stepped in and fought until it was over...circa UFC 1 (minus the tournament format, since I believe it was usually the freshest fighter who advanced after round round 1...not the best fighter)

Wow. What Robbery. Okami clearly won the fight. Sheilds has progressed nicely into the champ he is today, but Okami is clearly the better fighter. Tho, Okami has gotten better at being more aggressive and less passive --- hence, the reasons he lost to Sheilds and even Rich Franklin---b/c if he was more aggressive and brought the fight to Franklin, he would've won that fight. It's nice to see that Okami has become a more aggressive fighter. He will become champ one day in the UFC - just a matter whether he does catch Silva...b/c I believe he has the most potential to give Silva a run for his money b/c of his overall strength and ground and pound game.
