Thank you sooo much man!!! I been waiting for this fight quite a long time! Although I was cheering for Werdum, the fight stoppage was a bit too early, the same referee that stopped the James Vs Slice fight.

I take that back, after watching the replay, you can tell the stoppage was reasonable. Poor Vera, now HW title shot anytime soon for him, better drop down to the LHW.

probably a bad call

Even though I think this stoppage was fine, I think the UFC should not have any more bouts refereed by Dan Miragliotta because of the suspicious way he ref'd the Kimbo/Thompson debacle.

I didn't like having to think to myself, "Hmm, why did Miragliotta stop it there? Was it really justified or was somebody paying him off?" Having guys like that in the sport lowers the credibility of the whole thing.

Questionable stop with 24 seconds left. Vera's face was not even red, he did not take much punishment.

Mirgliotta strikes again....

terrible. too early. there were lots of shots, but none of them were doing any worthy damage.

fabricio werdum has a very solid mount, vera wasnt going anywhere and would only have taken more damage, good stoppage

im sure vera thought he could ride out the pounding but thats just not the case, you get more tired from being hit than throwing blows if theyre that powerful

I am very disappointed with Dan Miragliotta in this 'stoppage' again.

When Kimbo was in the crucifix of Thompson and Thompson is landing 'clear' elbows to the head of Kimbo, he didn't stop the fight. Vera clearly has his elbows up here, not all punches were landing, and it wasn't clear that Brandon was hurt. He should given Brandon more time, just like what Miragliotta did to Kimbo.

Big John should come back...

The call was BS. How the hell did this ref not stop the fight when James Thompson elbowed and punched Kimbo's head 72+ consecutive times with Kimbo not defending AT ALL. Vera was defending himself with his hands up the whole time. This ref needs to be fired. What a moron.

i think the ref made the call to pay homage for his mistake on Kimbo's fight hahaha

Definitely a bad call.

Compare this stoppage with the Bisping/Day stoppage. Miragliotta let the Bisping fight go on much longer. Vera took way less damage than Day did yet he stopped it way faster. If Miragliotta is gonna stop fights early then he should at least be consistent. It makes us question his motives.

Boy am I pissed off. Miragliotta fucks up again. Not taking anything away from Werdum because his ground skills are ace, but cmon. Vera hardly took any punishment and you can see it when he gets up. Faaar out, I really feel for Vera right now.

BS call, Vera wasn't even rocked! Kimbo was getting hit w/ big blows in the 2nd. Dan sucks.

most blows ended on his arms. that was no reason for a stoppage, asecially so close to the end. Miragliotta just stinks i guess.
but werdum was really strong i must admit.

damn, i really wanted Vera to win. i like him, despite his cockiness.

greetings from belgium!

An official has to give time to let someone defend mount. If all you have to do is mount and then swing wildly to win, then that's BS. Also Mirgo.. whatever the fuck his name is, needs to find a new line of work. The roids he's taking are messing with his judgment.

No reason to compare this fight with the Kimbo one. The kimbo one was an embarasment to the sport. The ref. was pressured into Kimbo winning - end of story.
In this fight, Vera was not hurt and could have taken more punishment. Still, we would have had to see him getting punched in the face 24 more seconds to see(i d'ont think he would have survived that long)... In this fight Werdum got Vera down, mounted him and was pounding his face, Vera was just hidding his face and defenceless. the ref. could not see how hurt he was so stoped the fight.. (I would have paused the fight to ask Vera if he was ok, than have them continue for 10 seconds, if no changes were made i would stop the fight as well)
Because everyone complained about the Vera ending, The Bisping fight got more leanway, that fight was a good stopage.

I can't seem to use Ru tube videos, why is that

To the person who typed "I would have paused the fight to ask Vera if he was okay...", may I suggest that you acquaint yourself with the rules of the UFC. Hmm...pausing the fight? Wait a minute. Perhaps I shouldn't be so hasty in my assessment of the merit of such a rule. Let's close our eyes and imagine the UFC uveiling it's new "pause and 10 second rule" at UFC 86. Forrest is mounted and appears to be having a hole punched through his face by Rampage. Referee Miragliotta--not wanting to stop the fight prematurely or wanting to give Forrest the benefit of the doubt or not wanting to be ridiculed on Ultimate MMA Video Blog--pauses the fight to ask Forrest if he is okay. Once Mira ascertains that Forrest can continue, he allows Rampage to continue his brutal GNP for 10 seconds until: a)it's obvious that Forrest has a hole punched through his face; b) Rampage, feeling guilty about dishing out such vicious GNP to his Ultimate Fighter Season 7 co-star, decides to transition to an arm bar to end the fight (unaware that the "pause and 10 second rule" is in effect for submissions too; c) Forrest taps out (not knowing that the "pause and 10 second rule" is in place just in case he changes his mind about submitting; or d) Forrest miraculously reverses the position and begins to, apparently, pound a hole through the face of Rampage (in which case...). Yeah. On second thought, that's a great freakin' rule. Let's pitch that rule and see what Dana thinks about it.

It was a poor call. I agree with a previous comment, if all you have to do is get mount and swing wildly to win things are going to get pretty predictable in this sport. Now its my understanding that you loose a fight by 1, getting knocked out. 2, getting tko'd . 3, submission or 4. points. Two of the four are straight forward, a KO and an submission leave little doubt in anyones eyes. Point are points and can be a pretty sucky way to loose.

Now the TKO is tricky but shouldn't necessarily be. A technical knock out should be just that a knock out due to blows. So tell me this, if a mounted fighter isn't knocked out how does the fight get called? Brandon Vera wasn't knocked out, he didn't even look dazed. Sure he was in a tough position, but thats fighting. He should have been given the chance to improve position. Especially when it was so close to the end of the round. Whatever happened to being saved by the bell?

i don't get how the ref lets kimbo take 70 unanswered blows, while vera was defending and stops it so fast... thats bs
