Now, ya see what happens when people make an INFORMED decision about mma. That mayor is such a douche, just wants some fucking TV time and to get his name in the paper.Never even been to the gym and says it should be closed down, WTF!

bizzle, you are fucking stupid. get your head out of your ass loser.

They are too young to be doing this, the parents are retards. They are blatantly teaching their kids a violence and aggression at an extremely young age. Whats going to happen is someones child is going to get hurt or really hurt someone and then all hell is gong to break lose.

Bizzle is right. Anyone can see the difference between an informed decision and an uninformed one.

whats wrong with what bizzle said? anyways, i agree, lame mayor with no logic behind his actions. i'm glad a news station ran a report like this, they're usually all so negative.

putting your kids in a sport where they'll be repeatedly knocked in the head is bad parenting

I have no problem with children training and learning MMA. Nobody has a problem with kids training kickboxing, bjj, or other martial arts. Why do they have a problem with it when its all put together? Having said that, I personally wouldn't put my 8 year old in a cage with another kid in a real MMA match. Especially without headgear like we saw in some of those clips. But then again, I wouldnt let my 8 year old play full contact football either.

I agree 100% w/Bizzle.

props to CBS for doing their research

I dont know, seems kinda irresponsible, they are being taught to fight at a young age, eventually they will fight in the playgrounds. parent should stick to the basics martial arts before they put their kids in MMA just yet.

Any competitive sport where kids at such a young age are taking punches, knees and kicks to the face is a bad idea, even with head gear.

You have to remember that at those ages, the brain is in some of the most critical stages of development. Any force or trauma over a continuous period could potentially hinder future brain development.

I don't mind if children learn a combat sport such as BJJ or wrestling where you can submit the person but sports like boxing and kickboxing which is aimed at knocking the other guy out is a bad idea imo.

In my understanding, Children MMA doesnt allow strikes to the head so im good with this, it teaches also the Values of Discipline and Respect, unlike the usual backyard or street brawling type of Values

If mma is teached the same way as karate, or taekwondoe, or judo... there is obviously nothing wrong with that.

People see kids sparring and hitting each others in karate and tae-kwon-doe and everyone actually enjoy and have fun watching them.

Somehow people still have this impression of street fight when they think of mma.

actually there is a whole lot of rednecks mma fans who complain mma is not street fight enough... so i can understand where theses peoples are coming from.

And btw a serious injury is doomed to happen sooner or later; just as it did with karate, tae-kwon-doe and judo...

cheers!

Kids play baseball and get knocked in the head, kids play tennis and get knocked in the head, kids play football and get knocked in the head, hell kids try to ride the dog and fall on their head.

What they need to do is just get face cages for the kids (even though they are too small to generate enough power to cause damage anyway) and only allow striking standing up.

That's how a lot of gyms start their students out. By making them only practice striking standing up and BJJ on the ground. No ground and pound.

To me this isn't that violent. People are only upset about it because you can hit on the ground.

you are just as ignorant as the people bashing MMA!

I agree wholeheartedly with the Mayor.

All parenting decisions should be made by the government!

Children should be sitting on the couch at home with a jumbo size bag of Cheese Puffs and a two-liter of Cola...playing Street Fighter, Grand Theft Auto and various other "first-person" shooter video games. Every few hours taking a break to get another dose of Ritalin (or whatever other pharmaceutical drug the so-called "experts" in the medical field can get them to become a lifetime customer of).

God forbid we have a nation of healthy, disciplined and aware of their own strength youth...who someday become healthy, disciplined and aware of their own strength VOTING adults.

Good job Mayor...keep up the good work!
(Ass clown!)

PS Sometimes you just get tired of beating your kids and it's nice to know there's a place you can drop them off to continue the beatings
(I'm kidding...take a chill pill...I don't even have kids)

CSReeves - ha! You're hilarious. Great comment...

I thought the 20/20 piece was very objective and well done. The mayor didn't come off looking too good, but that's his own fault for not doing his research properly.

Personally, as the father of a 16-month old, I look forward to the day when he can participate in sports like this. I think - IF IT'S DONE WELL, with RESPONSIBLE coaches - kids MMA can be a great thing. It's not teaching violence, just teaching self-defense. And there's nothing wrong with knowing how to fight AS LONG AS the kids also learn propriety - WHEN it's okay to fight.

I wrestled, played baseball, and soccer growing up. I hope my son will be involved with MMA because I want him to have that exercise, discipline and confidence. It's my job as a parent (along with the coaches) to teach the kid that combat stays in the ring except when necessary for self-defense or the defense of others.

People who disagree are also the ones who don't let their kids play with squirt guns or army men.
