Wow come on. I have no doubt James was about to get knocked out but he robbed Kimbo of a KO. We can't start stopping fights right before a KO happens. I think they let the fact that it was on CBS get to their head and try to protect the sport a little bit.

That was the biggest BS stoppage I have ever seen in my damn life. He was rocked but definitely not out by any means. A stoppage in the second round when Thompson was owning Kimbo would have been more justified. That ref needs to be fired for being a moron.

I have to say Kimbo is not ready for any world class HW fighter.

That's some Kimboner bullshit! Two shitty stoppages in a row when there should not have been a stop. On the other hand the Gina fight was awesome.

So... honestly,
I thought that even though entertaining, the fights were not quite upto UFC or Pride standard...
Any thoughts?

Most of the CBS crowd got exactly that...they got to C - BS!

First, every fighter on the card (for the most part) was a striker...way to go CBS and money grubber (um, I mean Elite), this way your new fan base will think it's just boxing but with some kicks and smaller gloves.

Second, I love how the female face of MMA (which they pounded into the viewer) must have been stuffing hers on sets for magazine shoots (i.e. coming in overweight). Nice of Kaitlin to take the fight. If I was Kaitlin's manager I would have made the following deal: For every half pound that your poster girl is overweight, she has to give me $1000 from her purse (no pun intended) and CBS/Elite have to cough up $10,000...or you can replace me with whatever scrub will take the fight and I'll blog about it...your choice.

Also, did everyone notice how as soon as it looked like any of the fights could get messy (Kaitlin coming out for a third round, etc.)...they called the fight??? Where was Steve Mazagatti when you need him?

Now to my main comment. While most of the CBS crowd saw this Kimbo fight and were probably left with the thoughts...whoa! he's mean and tough and bloodied that guy up...and he's still undefeated ...he's dangerous!...I wouldn't agree AT ALL!!!

1. Let's all thank Steve Mazzagatti JR for stopping it early and saving face for the exhausted poster boy.

2. Even deeper, let's thank CBS/Elite for putting a man with a known glass jaw in front of the poster boy to begin with.

3. Did anyone else notice that the UNDRAINED ear was waiting to be demolished?!! Hey trainer, if you need pointers on how to deal with draining an ear before a fight and attempting to protect it...call Sakuraba...he uses something called "tape."

4. Was is just me or did Kimbo look like SHIT? He just became another Youtube fighter to me in one night. They serve him up a can and he can't even handle that. Did Kimbo ever even put him down??? NO! But he did pop that ear...and that was good enough for a STANDING TKO....bullshit!

5. Bas Rutten, I love you...but you're on notice. Either come clean and admit you just want a Slice of the Kimbo cash cow...or get the hell away from this piss poor excuse of a MMA fighter and save your reputation as a trainer and coach....your choice.

In summation, what I witnessed tonight on See Bull Shit TV was the antithesis of Abu Dhabi Combat Championships...oh, and I guess I should thank them for introducing my most beloved sport to the masses...but instead I'll say F U CBS! and I'll thank Robbie and Scott and Joey V for bringin' it!

PS Thank God for Versus...Jens and Faber should help me to move past this debacle.

Close one Kimbo...at least this will open your eyes...as you did to his FRIGGIN EAR!! AHHHHHHAHAHA

MAN WHATS WITH ALL THE EARLY STOPS?
BULLSHIT CALL BY THE REF AND BY THE DR.
JAMES THOMPSON HAD KIMBO UNTILL THE REF MADE THEM STAND.
THOMPSON WAS WORKING ON THE GROUND AND HE STILL MADE THEM STAND.

ITS LIKE THEY NEED KIMBO TO WIN.
JAMES WAS ROBBED TONIGHT.

damn..talk about dodgy referees, what a joke. kimbo tapped out in the 1st round and the ref ignored it, it was stopped way to early in the 3rd, disgraceful Elitexc.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for posting. Little premature stoppage. Kimbo would get killed fighting top guys.

Anonymous said...

call me stupid...but didn't kimbo tapout at minute 2.47 left on the clock??? WTF happened there...i could swear that the dude tapped...this was my first viewing of an elite xc event...i will not be watching another...L>A>M>E>!!!_Jimbo_

This match was entertaining but I still think the middleweight title fight should have been the main event. Kimbo was better on the stand up (knees and power shots) but Colossus was dominant on the ground and like 90% of any heavyweight fighters after 1 round they were both out of gas.

P.S. In the first hour of the show there was more action in the Street Fighter 4 trailer they showed at the beginning then the first 2 fights.

Hey, good video. Love the site. I thought the stop was completely a joke. Does everybody else feel the same way? Here is what I wrote about it on my blog:

Kimbo Slice Fight Horrible

Also, check out the picture at the top. It shows how bad the stoppage was.

Anonymous said...

fixed. how could he stop it then, but not at the end of round 2 when kimbo was eating bombs?

Anonymous said...

In my opinion it was a bad stoppage. Not the worst i've seen but bad. In boxing that would be accepted but not in mma i guess. However that doesn't take any credit from Kimbo. He has stamina problems and that will limit him but what a performace!

Anonymous said...

EliteXC/CBS's whole card was insult to "real" Pro fighters and avid MMA fans! The oganization, refs,& doctors made sure that all the headliners where going to win. " BS, fixed, farce, etc." those are the thoughts of most knowledgable fans (just check out proelite's forums). Alot of angry fans feel they have been insulted with that so called MMA event!

Anonymous said...

FIRST... that fight was BS...

elite xc wanted kimbo to win...

he was completely controlled almost that entire fight...
he couldn't get outta side control!!! i think the ref even stood them up!!

i think this fight hurts MMA... especially cuz it was shown on tv.

chris said...

that was a questionable end to the fight, but if you look at thompson's eyes, he's out on his feet...that's why he pushed the ref...no fighter in their right mind would touch a referee because they might lose their purse. They both put up a helluva fight though.

Early stopage IMO, not bad scrap. this just shows that kimbo is not on the level of top rank mma fighters. I enjoy watching him though

No doubt Kimbo has heavy hands...No doubt it was a good match up, and I am glad to see Kimbo is a bit more than a street fighter.

My problem with this fight, is that Thompson had Kimbo stuck on the ground for well over a minute, and he was not protecting himself...yet the ref didn't stop the fight. There was no action from Kimbo.

Thompson takes a good hit to the head, his ear splits, and he probably get's rocked...the ref stops the fight. Good on Thompson for smacking thee ref...he's a thief in my book!

Are they protecting Kimbo's winning streak by chance? After all, without him, they would just be another MMA show.

Anyone know if that ref is related to Mazagatti by any chance? Both of them belong in different career paths in my book!

Anonymous said...

The stoppage was very contreversal but if you can see from a different angle the ref was looking for a stoppage since Kimbo busted his ear open. It's the refs call

Anonymous said...

cmon lets be serious, kimbo shouldve lost it on the 2nd round, around the last 50 secs. of the bout when thompson had his other knee on kimbo's arm. K didnt even have a guard at all and was just absorbing everything.

Anonymous said...

Booo. I know Kimbo is EliteXC and CBS's boy so of course they won't let him lose. But let it be known:

1) The fight should've been stopped at the 2nd, when for 30 secs Kimbo motionless was while getting pounded.

2) The beating Thompson was getting at the beginning of the 3rd wasn't any different from the other times he was getting beaten up in the 2st and 2nd. What can anyone say, the guy always came back didn't he?

So boo. The ref just needed to find an opening for Kimbo so that he can continue to be EliteXC's poster boy. This fight was good for money, but bad for MMA.

he tapped in the 2nd round..elite is full of shit, a step back for MMA but WEC will reset that tonight.

Anonymous said...

that wasn't a tap at 2:47 dumbasses

he gave the thumbs up

youre all a bunch of whiners, they couldve had less commercials but NONE of the 5 fights went to decision, lawler/smith was one of the most exciting fights ive seen, and the first 3 fights all were great.

say what you will about kimbo he is fun to watch

I thought Kimbo would have done better considering the fact that Bas is training him. I was disappointed by his performance and the shitty stoppage. Thomson's ear was some nasty ass shit too.

chris said...

First off, let me say, Thompson looks like he used to be on roids, and he stopped taking them...second, that ear should've been taken care of before the fight, and it was stupid to get in with that...third, kimbo gave a thumbs up in the "guillotine" in the second round...he didn't tap...fourth, when they were on the ground, thompson's "bombs" weren't doing anything. he had kimbo's arm held up, but his elbows just weren't doing any damage, thus the ref stood them up...then wheny you look at the slow mo-replay of the stoppage, the five unanswered blows are pretty hard. they just look slow in real time, but thompson was definitely about to go down. I think the ref could've let it go for another 10 seconds at least, but it's the fighter's health on the line, and that's the difference between a concussion and later damage in life. these dudes put their lives on the line, and it's the ref's job to make sure they walk away as healthy as possible, while still getting a good fight, so it's hard to say the ref did a "bad" thing.

Anonymous said...

This fight should have been stopped in the second round with the elbows against the fence. What do you expect when they put as much money and hype into Kimbo as they did. Would have been an embarrassment for him to lose. Business is Business I guess.

The coverage was horrible.

Just put Kimbo in the UFC, let him get destroyed and we can all move on. I hate that they chose this organization to be on national tv. Elite XC are like the traveling carney's of MMA. What a joke!

Anonymous said...

Why the hell do you morons keep saying the fight should have been stopped in the second round? Those elbows were fuckin weak, slow, and had no power behind them. Kimbo was perfectly fine. That's like holding someone down and slapping him in the face over and over. Just because it's hitting him doesn't mean it's doing any damage.

I do agree though that bringing the fighters up when Thomson had control on the ground seemed like a shady decision. I don't know how the ref could have justified that one.

In my opinion though, the stoppage was justified. Thomson made a very stupid decision in fighting with that freakishly malformed cauliflower ear. What was the ref supposed to do after seeing that thing burst up close with all that blood gushing out? I'm sure his first thought was to let the doctor check it, but by that time Thomson was already getting rocked by Kimbo so he decided to call the fight. Maybe it was a bit premature, but no reason for everyone to get so worked up. I think a lot of you people just don't like Kimbo and want to see him lose, which he will soon if he doesn't improve his ground game.

He tapped at -2:47 in the first round. Should have been out in the second round while getting elbowed in the face. And then wins with a premature stoppage...

That ref should be fired.

No doubt in my mind that it was a fixed fight.

Anonymous said...

If any of you have taken a chance to see the score card, believe or not Thompson was ahead on all 3 judges cards... so eff... this whole damn thing was rigged by friggen Garry Shaw, Elite XC, and CBS... shame on them and trying to turn something legit into a WWE

Anonymous said...

he didnt tap. for some reason a few times in the fight he gives kinda a thumbs up to let the ref know he is OK.

Anonymous said...

total BS!!!! the ref obviously is trying to protect WEC's 'big investment'...the fight showed that even someone with marginal knowledge of real mma can take kimbo to task...kimbo would not last against top ranked HW...heck i think bj penn could beat kimbo

This was difentley a fight that was fixed before it even began, Thompson was rocked a few times, kimbo tapped in the 1st. Thompson's ear popped but he wasn't complaining....and was stopped by the ref for $$$. This really was a chance for MMA to get even more massive, and while I think overall it still had a positive impact, it was a piss poor job.

Great job on the blog always here!!

he did tap at the 1st round, thompson seing it loosen the guillotine a bit but didn't let go just to make sure. kimbo feeling the guillotine no longer presurred his neck gives a thumbs-up sign to the ref. i think that's the reason why thompson was talking while holding kimbo, he was arguing with the ref... its a FIX fight for eliteXC poster boy "kimbo". i don't hate kimbo i like how he work hard to be a legit MMA fighter but this fight pissed me. he didn't work hard for this BS. i don't like him anymore, he need to be favored by the ref to win. bret rogers is right.

wtf screw all u kimbo haters. he could take on brock lesnar any day

a decent fight. better than Lesner vs. Mir. which was a shitty mach-up too. why put Lesner a "wrestaler" against a ex-champ sub. specialist in his 1st fight? thats why Dana White looks like an idiot talkin shit after he brings a f#$%kin WWE guy into his org. atleast Kimbo comes from a true fighting background, street-fightin or not...hes a fighter. a fighter who showed improvment and tons of potential. KIMBO SLICE!!!
