Anonymous said...: I thought it was an early stoppage, punches were slipping through but Karo had his arms up and it wasn't like he was trapped and couldn't turn out of it. The knee definitely rocked him, but I don't think that plus the few punches after were enough to stop the fight over. Oh well, it's easy to criticize the refs, much harder to be one. I feel bad for Mazagati for being part of both controversial stoppages, much like Herb Dean was back during Tito vs Shamrock 2.; April 3, 2008 2:14 AM

No doubt the knee got him seeing stars but the punches following did virtually nothing. 99% of the time a KO/TKO is from a shot(s) to the head, we've all seen someone come back from a flash ko, so when it hits the ground what do you look for before you stop it? I know that when I watch a fight I look for someones head to snap back when they've been hit there. Watch the punches following the knee and you'll see what I mean. The first punch hit him square on the cheek but the next three didn't do any damage. The second grazed his right shoulder, the third grazed the top of his head and the fourth was on his right arm. I think that as a ref in that situation the first thing you should look at is the damage to the head, if I see a guy's head snap back a couple of times after that then I'd stop it, but that's not what happened, instead it's like the ref was counting how many punches were thrown rather than the damage done.; April 3, 2008 12:38 PM

Daniel said...: true........ when I saw the back fat I thought "dude, hit the gym for once". Thiago was huge. Although I think Steve " the rapist mustache" Masagati needs to hold off on his reffing. One bad call after another. There's just too many to mention. Always early stoppages, too many points for back of the head shots taken away.
