Love the rants. It is possible to find 2 more uninformed people on this planet to talk about MMA? I doubt it.
I'm waiting for the day when these old, cynical, uninformed, arrogant and stubborn folks die off so the next generation can talk hold of the media and actually stat the facts and give people what they want.

First off, Keith Oberman is a million times worse then O'Reilly ever has been or could be.
Second of all if you watch the entire clip, you hear about how poorly CBS is doing and that they are desperate to regain some relevance with the average American viewer. That is why I think CBS is the first of the major networks to show MMA in prime time. They are desperate. But let's be honest here. Spike shows UFC stuff all the time. The WB or UPN of whatever it's called now shows IFL stuff in primetime as well. Seeing MMA on free TV is hardly new. And since CBS picked a second tier organization, it shows how desperate they are.
Now, as far as O'Reilly's comments, well it's expected. Some of you Liberals need to stop taking the bait. If Fox had secured the rights to show MMA, O'Reilly would be singing a different tune. But it was CBS. He's taking a shot at them because they have no problem taking a shot at Conservatives every chance they get and they are his competition.
But really, none of those three has the slightest clue about MMA. The fact that the term "gouging" was used proves it. All three are trying to make MMA sound bad so that people won't watch it, and CBS continues to lose money. Plain and simple.
Let O'Reilly talk about MMA in a negative manner. It's free advertising for the sport. Th more he talks about it, the more people are going to tune in to see for them selves. Some might like it, some may not. Either way, they are tuning in.

I love MMA, watch it once a day, practice it 3 times a week. But let's face it, this isn't mainstream and it never will be.
Although generally speaking, it's rather safe and not any more brutal than other full-contact sports, every once in a while you'll see a McFedries/Radev or a Babalu/Heath. Unsavory moments like those will definitely have parents reeling.
It's unavoidable, and to the casual viewer, it (mistakenly) looks more brutal than boxing. You really need to foster an interest in MMA to truly understand all the parameters of the sport and why it is such a fascinating event.
And for the record, calling O'Reilly a douche bag isn't going to give MMA fans any more credibility. As sad as it is, he represents the opinions of the silent majority (for the most part).

I'm tired of so many uneducated people "concerned" with MMA. I think if people spent time trying to first understand the sport before giving an opinion about it, then maybe the would have a much different opinion then the one they are giving. My point is that people need to do the homework first before complaining about MMA. It's becoming more and more a political issue and that sucks.
On a similar note, have you ever noticed how many people a year die running marathons. It's crazy. There's easily one or two deaths in that sport every year but no one's talking about that at all. Think about it....People DIE in marathons all over the world and all the time and nothing is said. Meanwhile MMA is supposed to be this crazy blood sport that's extremely dangerous.
I think we should all come together and lobby congress about marathons. Seriously, that's the real sport we should all be afraid of.

All of these cable news people are just paid script readers who perform what their editors want them to. There really isn't a damn thing for kids to watch during prime time because thats when the folks get home from work and watch what they want to. No families watch dancing with the stars. My grandmother and father in law do. Prime time has never been for kids.
What they need to do is start televising some of the footage from Iraq. Then maybe America will wake the fuck up. MMA is brutal, but it ain't shit compared to this illegal war that all these talking heads supported from day one.

Hey if pro wrestling can make prime time, then mma can too. People are concerned about mma teaching violence too our young viewers. But pro wrestling show way more violent moves, people jumpin off cages and getting hit with bats. Those moves can be dangerous if they are acted out by children, compared to mma moves.

MMA is facing the same backlash that anything new (to the mainstream) faces. Elvis was a sign of how far our culture has fallen, then the Beatles, Marilyn Manson, blah, blah, blah.
I liked the brilliant argument that children's shows are the way to go because they make millions (though Ratatouille was awesome), ignoring the fact that the shows, just like American Idol, are geared to completely different demographics.
But when you think about it, would you really want to watch GSP v Serra with someone who's also a fan Bill O'Reilly anyway? I think this naysaying is for the best.

I love how this has turned into a political discussion. It's not about liberal / conservative. It's about young kids and teenagers watching mma fighting on a major network during prime time. I love watching MMA, but I'm an adult who understands that I can't go around getting in fights all of the time. I also understand that the sport is much more than two guys beating the hell out of each other. The problem is that kids usually imitate what they see and what they feel is mainstream. My feeling is that kids won't understand the strategy and technique that is involved in each fight, but rather they will see the "knockouts" and that is what they will imitate.
Most of you probably think I'm crazy, but there has definitely been a shift in our society. All you have to do is search youtube and you'll find thousands of videos of kids street fighting. Seeing MMA on a major network during primetime will only fuel this fire.
Does criticizing O'Reilly make someone a liberal? I'm not a liberal (nor conservative), but I have no respect for O'Reilly.
This video is a perfect example of how this man will hold a passionate opinion on something but at the same time be completely ignorant of the topic. Even a casual MMA fan can see through his appalling ignorance (gouging... wtf is he talking about?).

I'm not sure where you get the idea that I'm an O'Reilly fan. That is definitely not the case. I was just stating what I thought...that MMA should not be on a major network (FOX, NBC, CBS, ABC) during prime time.
Look, I would have the same opinion if we were talking about R rated movies. Obviously I watch them, but that doesn't mean I want F bombs being dropped on major networks during prime time so my kids can hear/see it.
This has nothing to do with what I think of any network, TV host, or political party.

But if O'Reilly and Fox are going after CBS for airing MMA, then they're complete hypocrites, since Fox Sports have been showing Pride shows for years.
