Thought the ref jumped in pretty quick there after the knee, but then I saw it was Big John. Big John is the best in the biz for a reason, so if he thought the fight should be stopped, I'll agree with him.
Interesting, at 4:47, the commentator makes a remark about Hughes. Funny, don't all Hughes haters talk about what a dick he is? Why is it there is far more evidence of Matt Hughes being a respectable, honest dude with a ton of class, then of him being the opposite?
I imagine the knee looked much worse if you had a better angle. I don't think he was defending himself after it, either.
I suppose the reason we didn't get a good look at it was that there was only one camera.
Hughes acts like a dick between fights but is very sportsmanlike in the ring. eg. Laughing after GSP loss to Serra, vs. very sportmanlike behavior in all 3 GSP fights.
OK, so you gave one example of Hughes being a dick outside of the ring.
But tell me, was what Hughes did worse then when GSP came into the ring after Hughes Vs. Penn II and told Hughes he "wasn't impressed with (his) performance"? Yet, for some reason GSP seems to get a pass on that. Having said that, both Hughes and GSP hold no ill will towards each other, and both respect each other tremendously.
The reality is, you don't know what was going on in Hughes head at that point. Look around at the people standing near Hughes. The same expression can be seen on their faces too. The same expression was on my face when that fight was stopped and I utterly despise Serra and am a huge GSP fan.
Hughes was suppose to get the winner of that fight. I doubt he was happy that the guy he was about to fight, just dominated the guy who had just dominated him.
