Whoa the second knock down looked bad for Mir. Once again, technique conquers strength (not to forget stupidity).

Great fight. Thanks a lot for posting, I really enjoy your site.

man i think he needed more training before he got into the ring. the way he punched looked funny, and the rush of his first fight agains a real opp. prolly had something to do with it. he will be better next time out

from the all access video, lesnar did not seem to respect mir's ground game at all, so at least he knows better next time out.

man that was bullsh#it,what that ref did cost brock lesner the fight. He should have never stoped brock at the beging of the round. For what one punch that didnt even hit the back of his head.BULLSH@T...
I give mir his respect for the sub but the ref made a hugh mistake,I belive BROCK was about to stop mir before that A-hole made them stand up also he took one point from brock NO WARNING? any other fighter would have gotten a warning.BULLSH@T.

I thought Lesnar looked ok, considering it was his second fight. I look forward to seeing him and Mir both again soon.

Great site, thank you

Good fight, i think that Brock has a lot to work on and seems he is pretty determined. i think he could have a promising career in mma. I think he would have overwelmed a lesser fighter than mir. In the end, i think it was a good fight for both of them.

Raul said...

Rkeegan, Lesnar had no respect for his ground game which caused him the submission, stupidity? I think so, your opinion is neutral to me. And you calling someone out on the net to meet you in a so called "gym" is ridicule, drop the tough act. Wow a threat over the internet, that's so '01.

Hell yeah! Back to WWE, Brock!

I must say, I thought Brock was gonna win for a moment, but I guess we learned once again....technique over strength.

Only training MMA for a year and a half, I can easily see Brock winning int eh future.

I like how Steve Mazzagatti let Lesnar suffer a bit, hehehe.

i think the fight is bullshit
lesnar could have beaten mir to a pulp if the ref didn't break it up. props to brock for his 2nd MMA fight, he just needs more experience. he didn't see mir slip the leg underneath him.

I dont know who the fuck would think that meat head would win this match.. but hey he is deffinatelly goin to be a great athlete in this sport once he learns ground and bbj.

Very exciting fight, definitely. When I was watching it last night I figured people would probably question the win because of the time out. Figured people would say the ref robbed Lesnar of a win. But do we really know? I don't think we can say for sure. Look at Mir's legs just before the ref stops it. Yes he was under a crazy flurry of strikes but I think he still had a chance to pull of a win (remember, Mir is really strong off his back). I agree the time out was uncalled for (though it looks like it was more than just one or two strikes to the back of the head if you pay attention) and a warning should have been issued first, but I don't think it definitively decided the fight. I don't think Mir was entirely shut down before the time out.

video not accessible anymore. dead link

definately more than one shot to the back of the head.

the punches Lesnar was throwing after the 2nd takedown didn't really look all that painful nor did they appear to hurt Mir. If Randy or Fedor were throwing those punches from north/south position it would have been all over!

anyway, great fight for both guys career wise imo. great work by brock pulling out of those armbars. that knee bar didn't look very deep but Mir is very strong!

P.S. my prediction was a leg lock!

Mir: Handled his business.
Lesnar: Still learning.
Ref: Jagoff
Timeout: Questionable
Rematch: PRICELESS

That was really nice! Brock looked good man... he looked very strong and opened a cut on mir with only hammer punches :O
Lesnar can definatly upgrade his striking and grappling ALOT, it'll be nice to see him fight against not so good grapplers.
Mazagati should've given lesnar a warning first for sure before standing em up.
So in the end... it was nice seeing that beast land some short punches on mir's face and almost knock him out... give him some experience and grappling skills and it may be a very good Heavyweight

Lesnar: Still learning. Mir: Handled his business like normal. Ref: Jagoff. Timeout: Questionable.

Rematch: PRICELESS!!!

thanks for the fight. with more mma training brock will be a dangerous fighter. rkeegan/team elite - who cares how you work at your gym, your a no-name who wants other guys to see you struggle. when you think about brock's strength that rabbit punch to the back of the head probably could have been worth the point. Mir is really back for the belt!

I train and I go out to watch all the UFC fights. It was pretty entertaining to see how many overweight couch potatoes came out to see Brock Lesnar fight. I hope his loss has poked a tiny hole in the facade that is "professional" wrestling. Don't get me wrong. I like Brock and respect his decisions, I just don't think he deserved a shot in the UFC with a 1-0 record. There are lots of heavy weights out there paying their dues and not getting any passes. I was hoping White & Co. would try to make MMA more of a national sport that rewards dedicated athletes, not an entertainment business that gives advantages to good selling characters.

Video's working again. Haha, I love seeing all the pro wrestlers in the audience, although if you'd asked Mark Calaway (Undertaker) who he thought would win, he'd probably have picked Mir since he's an MMA fan.

Ref should've given Brock a warning, true, but either way the fight would have stopped and they would've been stood up. Props to Mir for his chin and sub game, although Brock looked much sharper than I expected.

Glad Brock lost so wrasslin' fans realize it's a different game, but I think he'll make a steady climb up the heavyweight division now.

i hate mazzagati, but he was right about stopping the fight there. he hit mir in the back of the head a few good times, although he should of had a warning instead of a point deduction

Mazzagatti Strikes again.

Props to Mir I like the guy but Lesnar was opening up a big can o'Whoop ass before the "time out"

Think about this Lesnar would Destroy Sylvia that is awesome take downs and he would way overpower anyone else in the HW Division.

Lesnar does need some better BJJ defense but he is a monster and looked pretty quick agains Mir who is one of the faster guys in the Divison.

War Mir, War Lesnar
Boo Mazzagatti.. Again...

Anonymous said...

I am not a fan of Mir or Lesnar, but Steve Mazagatti taking the point from Lesnar, and stopping the fight was only the first mistake made during this fight. it was all Lesnar. the second mistake Mazagatti made was taking so long to stop the fight after Lesnar tapped out. watch the video, it's clear to me that mazagatti was trying to punish Lesnar for crossing over from the WWE. Lesnar will come back and fight again in the UFC, and I believe with his stature, we will dominate. I wonder why he agreed to fight Mir (former Heavy weight champion) anyway. Was it all hype?

Anonymous said...

If we didn't need further proof, but this is why Big John was so vital to the UFC.

Mazzagati again proved his incompetence. Not even a warning for Lesnar for the back of the head, and yet he sat there like a clown while Lesnar was tapping.

I guess bad officials weren't just in the Super Bowl this weekend.

Props to both fighters. Hope Mir can get back on track, and I look forward to seeing Lesnar round out his game.

Lesnar vs. Silvia would be an awesome 2nd match for Brock, I think.

A few thoughts...

1a. If you didn't see this coming...you probably think WWE is a sport.
1b. If you didn't see this coming...you HIGHLY underestimate the word MIXED in mixed martial arts.
2. Somebody please make Silvia and Lesnar fight next
3. And follow up that fight with Nog and Mir...BJJ clinic anyone???...(hint: set DVR to record)
4. Wonder how many former and current WWE champs watched this and said to themselves, "well, there goes that idea...I'll just stay a pretend fighter."

And finally, one mean comment

5. Brock's a b*tch! See how quick he tapped. Shit, Silvia WATCHED his own arm snap in half before his very eyes and didn't tap. Brock felt "uncomfortable" and quit!

Sam Freedom said...

ps. Also want to see Lesnar vs Silvia so that someone can rightfully and properly demonstrate that Silvia just never belonged in there in the first place. Too many better fighters gave him too much respect and it worked out well for him that way. With Lesnar pressing the action, Silvia will explode into a puff of smoke in under 30 seconds, guaranteed.

Sam Freedom said...

First of all, to everyone, these comments are all awesome. I'm always amazed at how many ways people can see the same thing.

So I'm going to address a bunch of stuff here:

* Starting at 4:08, Lesnar hits Mir in the back of the head with a flurry of 3 quick punches. The camera angle shifts and around 4:11 he gets in 2 more.

* I think because both the blows are so blatant plus having a WWE wrestler and his "posse" in the house, the 1-point deduction was necessary just to maintain a sense of legitimacy. Besides, everyone knew this was not going the distance.

* As for stopping the fight, please people, Lesnar was getting some quick chopping shots in but Mir is a champ and no one can say he was even close to tapping or not close to pulling a trade-mark surprise submission off. The stoppage did not change the fight at all. The only issue I have with it is that maybe they should return them to their original positions like in Pride... it seems more fair that way and removes more doubts.

* Lesnar is a hambone. I can understand peoples' appreciation of his toughness and his demeanor but he's just fodder for the skilled fighters right now. And if he wins against any of them, it will be exciting, but it will be by sheer luck.

* As for Mazagatti being slow to stop the fight, again, please, the guy is only human and we're talking like 3 quarters of a whole second here. He might have been tunneled in on the footlock (it was not a kneebar). The last thing you want to do with a fight coming out of the WWE is create a "they called the fight too quickly" controversy.

I think everything went down fine.

And whoever questioned the Superbowl refs, I'm a Pats fan, and I don't blame the refs at all. Brady's ankle was obviously hurting him as he never rolled out of the pocket (which he is very good at) and never ran with the ball into the QB slide. And the NY pass rush was phenomenal. Pats lost, end of story.

Ok, my comments are usually short, sorry so long, just an unusual and exciting fight with lots of comments and controversy. Adios!

lesnar forgot it was the ufc not the wwe. Know the rules or pay, either way mir looked like the badass he is and has been were lesnar was a joke. go do a piledriver! Let the real threats in and keep the hype out. Keep crying about warnings and it will be a hit, by none other than( The Winers) Good Job Frank ! JUSTIN

Lesner sucks!!!!!

Bob said...

Lesnar just doesn't get MMA yet. his punches are awkward and not very effective, and his wrestling(not pro but collegiate) instincts are putting him in bad positions, notice how he spins around as if to secure the takedown. But have no doubt, btock lesnar will be a force to be reckoned with when he gets his technique down.
