wow i can't believe this, chuck liddell took that win easy. Wanderlie was just trying to box wtf ! he should of used some of his muay thai ffs. Trying to box liddell was a mistake in my opinion because liddell has longer reach and is taller.

damn, i have to watch this again

watching it earlier tonight was great

Pretty good fight although there was a reach advantage. Wanderlei fought differently in this one, it just doesn't seem right. Maybe he was nervous or on a different gameplan. Where were the kicks/knees. He should've learned something from the Jardine/Liddell fight, but i guess not.

Overall Liddell deserved it for the great battle.

I hope this becomes a saga.

Its called wanderlie not aloud to use steriods when he fights in UFC compared to pride.

aloud.

ha! you idiot.

lol, he never used steriods, nut hugger

boring fight - so much blabla before and then a boring boxing fight.

i am realy disapointed by wanderlei

any way thx for linking the video!

where the fuck are all the knees? that was a terrible game plan for silve, he tried to outbox someone with a longer reach

No, it's called English. You should learn to speak it.

Maybe you're not allowed to watch Wanderlei's Pride fights but it just wasn't the same fighter. It had nothing to do with octagon vs. ring or stage fright.

He pretty much threw this fight. I think what he was going for wasn't the win over chuck but to provide an exciting slug fest in the tradition of Griffin vs. Bonnar. He succeeded. People will remember this fight.

Wanderlei is now someone the average joe pay-per-view customer at home is going to remember now.

Chuck gets to be back in the spotlight and on his way to a title shot.

It's a win-win all around. Just seems too convenient really.

Yeah I know. Since steroids increase technique and skill instead of muscle...

Wanderlei was in amazing shape for this fight, and I think his next fight we will see the old Wanderlei.

This was a great fight - but I was totally disappointed in Silva's gameplan. Everyone talked about how Liddell's the better boxer while Silva has those kicks and knees. Especially after the Jardine fight, he shouldv'e known the way to defeat Chuck. I don't know if this was a pride thing, "I'm Wanderlei Silva and I'm going to beat Chuck at his own game" or whatever, but he did desreve to lose.
Although he put one hell of a battle...

I hope for his next fight his trainers will be a bit smarter...

Silva was a very different fighter this time and that might've cost him the win...

That was incredible! Stop whining and just enjoy this legendary fight!

Whats with all the "where are the knees?" comments. You don't just do knees out of nowhere.. you have to get close enough. Because of Chuck's reach and his defense, Wandy didn't get a chance to use knees. Maybe he could have used some more kicks though.

Anonymous said...

Hmmm. This really doesn't add up. We know better than this. I think Wanderlei could have beat Chuck easily too! I'm almost tempted to believe that this fight was fixed. Fixed such that, they didn't want Chuck to leave the UFC, and they didn't want Wanderlei to leave either. So they took it to a decision. Look closely. Chuck looks at the clock, and to secure the fight, he DID NOT look for the finish. Not as hardcore as he did with Tito or Randy. Instead he went to score take downs. And for some reason, the BJJ Black Belt, Wanderlei, could do nothing on the ground. I'm almost convinced that when left to the judges in high profile fights, they're fixed. They talked about how this would decide who would LEAVE MMA, whose career was over. If Wandy's career is over, Rampage wouldn't get his revenge. More importantly, a Jackson vs Silva fight would be thrown away and the UFC wouldn't be able to make money off of such a fight. This outcome was the best, as far as letting UFC make more money. Chuck gets to stay. Wandy gets to stay. Chuck and Wandy can now have rematches because things were sketchy and undecided (They could chalk it up to Wandy being nervous). It just doesn't seem right. After matches like Bisping and Hamill, I just don't have as much faith or trust in the UFC marketing team and Big Wigs like Joe Silva and Dana White.

That's just DUMB. Chuck was obviously gassing when he was looking at the clock, wondering how much longer he had to hang in there to take the decision. They weren't on the ground for long so Silva didn't have much of a chance to use his bjj, and besides that Chuck is an excellent wrestler so that's not a clearcut advantage anyways. Chuck was just too much for Silva, stop crying ladies.

Yeah..man i don't know...i was going for Wandy too...but like most of you guys already said...where were all those knees, and kicks....Hey do you guys think that all that time withought a fight had anything to do with it..i mean cuz his last fight he had was back like in Feb right??...i don't know. I just hope that in his next fight we see more of his usual stuff.

Man i really wanted him to win..but oh well..

"Liddell's takedowns were fucking awesome. Not one person in the building was ready for that, they came with ease, and they helped him avoid possible hail mary danger and solidify his control of the fight in the judges eyes. Brilliant. I don't know if his corner told him to do that, or it just came to him out of nowhere, but I loved it." -brainuse

"Now that he's older that TD should be a regular part of his arsenal ala St. Pierre. It's time Chuck adds to his game if he wishes to remain competitive. He's always relied on that big punch to save him, but now that he's lost a step augmenting his repertoire with TDs and GnP will give his opponents something else to think about. The TD is his only chance against Rampage, and that's still pretty fucking slim." - Donkey Puncher

NOOOO, this kid Nick in my class will not stop shutting up now that Chuck has won! I kept tellin' him that Silva was not to be fucked with and he trashed people in Pride, but I guess he did not display it in this fight. One hell of a fight though. I wish he would kick him more.

Above poster is a fool. How can you say that fight was fixed? Wand would NEVER throw a fight.

I don't know about steroids but silva nor shogun showed that aggresivness they used to show in Japan. They used to fight like a couple of speed freaks, oops did I say that?

I don't think it was fixed at all. Knees are difficult to set up against an experienced, long-range fighter like Liddell. Kicks are risky. They did work for Jardine, but there's still an great risk of taking a series of punches immeditately afterward. And, Chuck was totally watching the clock after that flurry when he put everything into Silva and didn't knock him out, he was pooped. He didn't want to blow his loud and get destroyed. Silva looked strong, but inept with the rule changes of the UFC compared to the free for all that was Pride.

I agree 114% with what this last guy just said..Its about MONEY !!! As much I dont like Lidell i have to admit he fought good, but Silva seemed out of it..It just wasnt him..It also goes to show how many lucky knockouts he has gotten away with (lidell)..He had Silva rocked against the fence and couldnt knock em out..He won fair and square I guess but we'll have to wait and see what happens with his next fight against Rampage to see what he is all about..

Not really that great a fight since Wanderlei didn't do anything.

There has got to be a rematch here.

horrible strategy for silva... i think he held back knowing that chuck is a counter fighter but did so way too much.

I'm a big Pride fan and a bit disappointed. Thats now both Crocop AND Silva (two fighters that I've followed for years) that have fought in the UFC and looked absolutely lame (ie; COMPLETELY different to their fight styles in Japan). I don't think it can be put down to the ring size/shape either.
I'm not saying these fights have been rigged but wouldn't be surprised if they were. Now that the UFC mob own both UFC and PRIDE I think somethings up.
To see Crocop and now Silva look this bad in UFC after being legends in Pride is a bit fishy to me. Lets hope Fedor doesn't get sucked into the UFC either, because if he looked this bad I'd KNOW the fights were fixed.

This fight pissed me off. I don't know who the hell that was in the ring with Chuck but it wasn't Wanderlei Silva. It was some kind of a dumb stunt double.

I was so disappointed with Wanderlei and this a great reason why I give absolutely no creedence to those bullshit pre-fight videos about things like all Wanderlei's new training techniques.

He should go back to eating crickets and rats like he did when he trained in Brazil because, obviously, his new training regimen hasn't done jack shit for him.

This was a ridiculous fight. I totally understand that it's easy to say such things from a cozy armchair but I'm talking from the experience of having watched these guys fight for a long time.

You can see at 11min that Chuck KNEW Wanderlei did not come to fight. Sure there were some good flurries later on but mainly because Chuck pressed hard and Wanderlei threw his usual haymaker counterpunches but Wanderlei was supposed to be multi-dimensional and like everyone else said, where were the kicks? Where were the knees? Where was anything other than a stupid standup match with a top-notch striker?

Instead of Where's Waldo, we should come up with "Where's Wandy?"

Sorry, not to insult any one else with a different opinion but this fight sucked in the sense that I was truly disappointed. And, as always, thanks for getting it for us.

Happy New Year, guys...

Ryan said...

I agree with the post above, this fight had the hype but it just didn't pan out. Silva didn't look like himself he looked like a one dimensional fighter, and everyone knows he has better skills than what he showed in the fight. I don't know about the fights being fixed, who the hells wants that on your resume. Hopefully there's a rematch and wandy does his thing. Chuck Liddell is cool but he should of got his ass beat.

Essential said...

I don't believe in "a boring fight." Cuck Liddell showed depth in this fight with those takedowns and that spinning-backfist.
Was the fight fixed? There is the point on taking a dive in pro-fighting for money, and lets admit it, the sake of not being beat to a pulp. As I say, DIVE, not stand-and-trade knockout punches. Obviously, Liddell connected more and Wanderlei didn't close the gap and you can also see his use of the illegal kicks and lack of elbows. Shoguns vs. Griffin proved the necessity of being familiar with the rules in Combat Sports; can you imagine the difficulty in shifting 5+ years of training?

One more point; Wanderlei is getting older as well, but I saw his eyes and he was ready. I can't say the same for Shogun; he is still a pup (like 26 I think? He is still a tough dude). Silva absorbed heavy, heavy punches, yo.

Liddell vs. Silva 2

Liddell vs. Jackson 2 unless Griffin pulls another upset

Mucho Gracias

this was a good fight but not great, very entertaining but not very much else, it lacked display of technical depth, gameplan, and basically anything else but a glorified/hyped-up wild boxing match(except for Liddells take-downs, that was most likely from his corners gameplan). As for Wand, i dont know what the hell was he or his team thinking, that had to be the dumbest gameplan ever(or rather total lack there of). I just dont get how they tought that performance could end up in victory, specially against a figther like chuck, i mean stylistically speaking they could not had come up with an easier match up for Liddel. Did they not have access to like a computer or a dvd player in order to watch the Jardine fight? And even discarding that, were was the rest of Wand's fighting repertoire? I mean I would understand if he had atleast tried, i didnt see no attempts for clinch, takedowns, or setups for some good kicks(there were a couple of seldom kicks here and there in the second round, but nothing set up well to do damage).

I know some Chuck fans are gonna hate what i said but the reality is that im a fan of both fighters coming into this fight(was a bit disappointed in chucks last performance tho, and thought Silva had the edge and tools to take this fight), I would had love to see both this fighter bring their all in this fight, but that didn't happened, Chuck looked great, but not so much for Silva. Lets hope we can see a rematch, but with chucks age who knows if that will happen.

I agree with you null. Old Wand would've attacked and destroyed Chuck when Chuck fell. Seems like Chuck took this fight to easy. I'm more excited on watching Wands next fight, then I was excited for Chuck V. Wanderlei.

props to chuck but i think wandy did not bring his A game that night. Chuck was just the better fighter that night no excuses but mad props for wandy's chin, he can take not only 1 strong punches but multiple punches as well.

Some one fire Mike Goldberg, he keeps stating the obvious, and never really talks about the fight. You'd think he'd learn something over the many years working for UFC.

Anonymous said...

Why is he yelling "TAKEDOWN!" ... we can see that thnx.

Just the fact that nothing even happened in Round 1 tells you that something is definitely up here....both fighters wasted Round 1 as if they both knew what to do. Neither got overly aggressive with each other in Round 1.

Did you guys see Rampage at the end of the fight? He looked disappointed in Wanderlei's performance too.

people really over analyze fights. period.Chuck was at a boiling point. In my opinion it's like this; he got knocked the fuck out. he wasnt feeling the jardine fight and lost a close descion. all these homos are saying things like "i wish i could see these dudes fight in their prime" well a year ago everyone said "chuck is in his prime". people lose fights, life goes on,we learn from our mistakes. It's prety pitiful that people are making accusations of the fight being rigged. Sorry your favorite fighter got rocked,it happens. Was that knock-out of crocop fixeD? fuck no! was i disapointed not to see one of my favorite fighters in a title fight YES,but so what i still give gonzaga mad props. Most of these douches dont even train in mma and know nothing about ACTUALLY FIGHTING. "where were the knees?" its called reach and redemption and liddell had both. quit yer bitching!

Anonymous said...

wandy sucks as a fighter, he can only beat up the nips in japan, every time he fights a quality opponent such as ortiz, belfort, crocop, hendersen, now liddel, he loses. the only good win he has is over jackson...that's it!

Rampage Jackson said...

He threw the fight for money. it's that simple, Chuck is a HUGE stable to UFC. If he lost this fight then his career would be OVER. Dana doesn't want him out. What better way to convince viewers than to have him overcome a Pride beast like Wanderlei?
