I didn't see him tap, but does a referee not have a responsibility to ensure the safety of the fighters? if the arm looks like its going to break, can the ref not stop the fight?
Its not ok to him to fight in this weight division,Paulao says he lost too much power.WWW.portaldovt.com.br
I've heard/read alot about Filho, but after watching this I was not impressed with him.
They say he'd be a great contender for Anderson Silva....Silva would destroy him into next week.
Nice armbar though.
Wait a minute...did the ref just gave the win away to a guy who was down 0 rounds to 2 (and to a guy who just proved in the previous round he could withstand an armbar) or am I seeing things?
anyone else starting to think Filho is a tad bit overrated?
Sonnen verbally submitted in my eyes. If you scream out in agony when you get arm barred thats a verbal submission in my book. The ref has a duty to protect the fighters and stop the fight in that position.
Also, Sonnen tried to cheat earlier on in the fight anyways. He covered up Filho's head after the slam and yelled "He's out! He's out!" to the ref. When Filho was clearly moving and not out.
I don't even like Filho but the stoppage was justified.
The ref should be fired. That was ridiculous.
We've seen a couple stoppages like this. Most notably Mir over Silvia where Silvia's arm turned out to be broken.
These refs aren't stupid. They know how arm bars work and if you are screaming in pain during a tight armbar they are going to stop the fight. It was a just stoppage.
paulos stand up = shit
paulos ground is highly overrated.
bs decision,
weak...no tap
so what if he screams, if he dont tap - he can stand the pain.
he yelled "tap", which is an acceptable verbal submission
Just because a fighter doesn't tap doesn't mean that the fight should not be stopped. The ref has a duty to protect the fighters (sometimes from themselves). What if Sonnen's arm snapped in two and he still didn't tap? Should the fight be allowed to continue? According to Anonymous' (Dec 14 5:38am) logic, he should be able to fight with his arm hanging by its skin if he doesn't tap but goes around screaming in pain.
The ref has ensure the safety of the fighters first and foremost. So when the ref saw that arm bar sunk in so deep (and it was in DEEP), and he heard Sonnen scream in pain, he did what he was trained to do in such situations. He stopped the fight.
