This is one of my favorite fights ever, Nishijima was a very popular boxer in Japan. This was is first MMA bout and man did he give it everything he had. Mark Hunt never ceases to amaze me with his cardio, just when you think that enormous man is totally gassed, he comes back and looks fresh, throwing those sledgehammers he calls fists.

yeah, yosuke looked like a weakling though. no power, no aggression. he he felt he lost the fight before he even got into the ring. this is a poor mentality to begin with if you plan on winning against a superior fighter, if even.
Thanks for the post. I always remember Pride 31 for the whole Mark Coleman/Shogun fiasco. I almost totally forgot about this fight. Nishijima is a warrior. He took a lot of bombs from Hunt.
I think Pride could have done a better job of handling Nishijima after this fight. Maybe give him some lower tier opponents seeing as how he was new to the sport. He had star potential written all over him. Pride sort of fed him to the wolves. He fought Mark Hunt, Yoshida, Cyborg, and Baroni all in the same year.

Hunt was droppin' bombs like Hiroshima...and dude stood in and took it! (for a while)
I'm not sure if Hunt was trying to elongate the fight, but I don't get why there wasn't a constant barrage of leg kicks (against this boxer) and then knees in the clinch...his opponent had NO idea of how to defend them.
Where is the new TUF episode?
When I saw this fight, I was like... haha, this fight isn't gonna last very long! But DAMN, this Nishijima guy showed great heart. Gotta love that. Best fight in my book.

many thanks for this fight! amazing. one of the best i've ever seen. that japanese guy is a warrior... i respect that very much (let's not forget who he was facing -- hunt gave fedor a bad time last time they fought).

He took so much punishment - BRAINDAMAGE OR WHAT?! I mean, forget the head, his neck should be in so much pain that he can't walk with the amount of whiplash that those strikes put on it.
What is Nishijima on!? He should've been friggen dead! Guy's got a rock on his shoulder.
