Cung Le vs Mike Altman Plus A Mini Documenatry on Le

Cung Le is becoming more and more popular in the world of MMA. A guy with amazing striking ability that looks like something out of a Bruce Lee movie. This fight against Mike Altman at Strikeforce was his first in MMA, keep watching the video after the fight is over for a cool little mini documentary about Le with interviews, tv spots and some kickboxing highlights.

i've seen this fighter before, his name is cro-cop. i think this guy would get demolished by more versatile fighters like bj penn.

Cro-cop vs. Bj Penn aside... 9_9

More and more I'm hoping Cung destroys the next person he's matched up with. His untested ground game/many high kicks combination still worries me, but I'm hearing so many doubters about how his "fantasy" kicks won't work against a real fighter, etc. that I'm hoping he picks apart whoever he faces next with kicks and stuffing takedowns.

We'll get to see soon...he's fighting Nov. 16 at a Strikeforce event. He's facing Sam Morgan, who doesn't sound like an elite fighter, in his last 9 fights he's 4-5. He might present more of a challenge to Le though, 12 of his 18 wins have been by submission. Can't wait to see this one! http://www.sherdog.com/news/news.asp?n_id=9798

Looks like Altman got paid on the side...

Man, I'm sick and damn tired of people saying all of Cung's MMA fights have been works. Where's the evidence, any evidence?

Yes his opponents all lost to him. Yes they all got hit with his crazy Bruce Lee kicks. But that's because (and this has been one of the main complaints surrounding Cung) his opponents SUCKED. They didn't have to throw the fight to take 5 roundhouses in the face!

It's not Cung's fault they don't know how to defend against a sidekick. Get some evidence or shut the fuck up.

Let me also mention that this is not the whole fight, this one went nearly 4 minutes and there's only 1:12 of actual fight footage on that video. It's heavily edited (in case you couldn't tell) and even though Cung's a human highlight reel, Altman looked at least half decent for the other 3/4 of the fight.

can someone please clarify for me: have we seen cung's ground game, i havnt personally, and im pretty sure he's relatively new to mma. so just wondering if anyone knows if hes a threat on the ground. if he is....man is that scary

Umm...I think the first guy is saying that Cro Cop is an awesome striker but has shit for ground game...and Cro Cop got beat by Gabriel Gonzaga. He may have got kicked in the head, but he lost that fight because he was tired from getting dominated on the ground. I don't know if the same thing would happen with Le, he is pretty explosive and Cro Cop only had really strong legs and nothing else too impressive...

We haven't seen Cung Le on the ground yet in MMA so we have no idea of how well versed he is there. But it's not his fault. His opponents have just had poor game plans and decided not to take the fight to the mat. When I heard he was fighting Fryklund, I was sure he would try to take Cung down but he didn't. Hopefully this Morgan guy will try to take him down though so we can see Cung's TD defense or ground game. Whatever happens though Cung Le puts on a show and that's what I pay to see.

Actually hiroshi, I saw a video of his second MMA fight where Cung took his opponent down via some sort of front suplex.

As far as I remember though, Cung basically layed in his guard and threw a few punches before the ref stood them up.

Haven't seen his 3rd fight yet, but as far as I know that's the only groundwork he's had in an MMA match.

Found the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCmbM1C-_BE

It happens at :30 into the video. I was wrong too, his positioning looks to be pretty good although again nothing too much happens there except for a pretty good slam by Le. His opponent scrambles for half, then full guard, and then they stand up again.

Come to think of it, I think his second fight is the best demonstration of Le's all-around skills in an MMA match so far.

I have seen Cung Le's takedowns in san shou. He seems pretty effective at it. He's doing single and double legs, clinch slams, suplexes, and of course his signature flying leg scissor TD's. The problem is that in san shou you can't pounce on the guy after.

I thought Strikeforce was gonna gradually give him tougher guys to fight though. But this Morgan guy seems like a step down from Fryklund. I don't even know where this fight came from. Last I heard he was supposed to fight Misaki. Guess the fight fell through and Morgan replaced him?

Although in overall quality I think Morgan is a step down, I'm hoping he won't be so damn stupid. Fryklund could've been a challenge because of his takedowns and GnP, but he didn't try to take Le down once. If Morgan does though, I think his submission game will pose a test, so in some ways it could be a tougher fight.

earth to the first three moron's-i posted the first comment and i wasn't suggesting bj and cro-cop fight...i was using bj as an example of a more versatile fighter. thanks for playing.

They pulled Sam Morgan to fight him because he has credibility with their target demo. Which isn't us. They can't get by with true fight fans' support, they used his name and Ultimate Fighter recognition to draw a crowd, not to satisfy us. Such is life, these guys have to make money in order to show us any fights at all. Frank Shamrock will test him, Frankie's all around game is top notch, and if Cung can beat him, no one will be left to doubt him.
